While results did not go the way of an understrength team, they were wonderful hosts for our visitors St Manchan’s who ended as winners of the Division Ten Cup. We were delighted to host a great bunch who represented Offaly very well both on and off the field. A huge thank you to all parents and volunteers who helped in any way over the course of a busy weekend. Congratulations to our local ladies club, Eoghan Rua, on winning the Division Eight shield title. On the local front this week, our U-14s exited the league at the semi-final stage after a 6-12 to 1-10 loss against Shamrock Gaels.

Intermediate

Our Intermediate team suffered a 2-12 to 0-13 defeat at the hands of Calry/St Joseph’s at Hazelwood on Sunday morning last in the Division Two league. This was a disappointing outcome, particularly after an excellent start to the game saw the lads lead 0-4 to 0-0 after just five minutes. Best wishes to Rian Grimes who sustained a foot injury early in the game. Our lads have three weeks to prepare for another important game against St Patrick’s on the weekend of July 6th/7thin the penultimate round of the league.

Astro Turf update
The construction of our indoor astro turf complex has been a game-changer for our club in terms of underage coaching and improving our younger players. It is also utilized by our local hurling club Western Gaels and our local ladies club Eoghan Rua, along with several community groups. We would not have got to this point without the remarkable generosity of the local community and beyond during the construction process. In line with this, we are now in the final stages of preparing the various inscriptions for erection within the building. Due to the continued high demand for walls, blocks and bricks, the club have decided to leave the application process open until May 31st, after which point we will be closing donations and subsequently erecting names of donors within the building. If you still wish to donate, please consult our club website here Virtual walls including wall donors, block donors and brick donors will be uploaded to our social media channels this week.

AGM

Last Friday’s club AGM in the clubhouse was held in front of the largest crowd in recent memory. The usual reports were delivered by Chairman Declan, Secretary Brendan and Treasurer Eugene. All reflected on a year of good progress in 2018 on the field, and a very busy year off it, including the successful hosting of several high-profile fixtures at Quigabar. Thereafter, the meeting considered the election of officers. The only major change is in the position of President, where John P. Mullaney was elected to succeed Oliver Bourke after he stepped down following two years in the role. Oliver’s very active period in the position was the subject of much praise from the floor. Paul Tuffy was elected the club’s new Vice President. Other changes included Thomas McManus being elected at our new county board delegate.
